The Little Lantern

Hope can guide people through uncertainty.

A note about this story: Storytelling traditions across the Middle East often include journeys, wisdom, hospitality, and clever problem-solving.

In a desert town, a little lantern hung outside a family's door. It was not the brightest lantern. It was not the fanciest. But every evening, it glowed.

One night, a sandstorm covered the road. A traveler lost his way. He saw one small light blinking through the dust. Step by step, he followed it.

The family welcomed him with water, bread, and a warm place to rest. The next week, the traveler returned with a lantern of his own. He hung it outside his home.

Soon another family did the same. Then another. By winter, the town shone every night with little lights.

The first lantern looked around and thought, “I was small, but I was enough to begin.”
