The Backpack That Shared

Sharing makes everyone's day better.

Mila had a bright red backpack with three shiny pockets. Every morning, she packed one snack, one pencil, and one tiny toy.

One Monday, her friend Arjun forgot his snack.

“My tummy is making thunder sounds,” Arjun whispered.

Mila opened the first pocket and found her apple slices. “I can share,” she said.

At recess, Nora's pencil broke during drawing time. Mila opened the second pocket and found her extra pencil. “You can use this,” Mila said.

On the bus, Leo looked sad because he had nothing to play with. Mila opened the third pocket and found her tiny wooden turtle. “Want to make up a turtle adventure?” she asked.

By the end of the day, Mila's backpack felt lighter, but her heart felt fuller.

That night, she told her dad, “My backpack has magic pockets.”

Her dad smiled. “I think the magic was you.”
